Operation Aorta is an educational Minecraft world where children explore the human body. Through play, they learn about the vital role blood plays in our bodies and the importance of blood donation. The world has been available to play for free since September 2023, and the response has been overwhelming.
Education Through Minecraft
More than a million gamers have now discovered the world of Operation Aorta. This milestone highlights the impact of the broader campaign, in which Sanquin, together with gaming-for-brands agency The Invaders, educates children and their parents about the importance of blood donation in a responsible and accessible way.
Joyce Veekman, Director of Communication & Marketing, explains:
“At Sanquin, we believe it’s important to tell young people about the lifesaving work we do. And it’s even better when we can do that in a really cool way. Of course, young people can’t become donors yet, but it’s crucial for the future that as many people as possible understand the importance of blood and a safe blood supply. They are the donors of tomorrow! And because the game can be played in both Dutch and English, blood banks around the world can benefit from it!”
Ronald Vledder Celebrates the Milestone with His Fans
More than a year after its launch, Operation Aorta remains incredibly popular, with new players discovering it every day. This success is partly thanks to well-known Dutch YouTuber Ronald Vledder.
